VERSE One

No leaves on the trees, the parade on TV
The balloons and the bands what a day
The Rocketts were a kickin'
Reindeer hoofs were clickin'
Santa rode down the street on his sleigh
Now the season was just getting started
With a Thanksgiving feast to behold
We had so much to do before Christmas arrived
At this time of the year long ago.

Spent weeks baking cookies, never had such a mess
Bought a tree off the lot down the street
We took all day trimming
Couldn't help all the grinning
At the old antique bell on the tree
All the gifts wrapped and tied with a bow
And the house with more lights than last year
There was laughter and song in the air everywhere
Counting days until Christmas got here

But I still smell my mom's apple pie
I'll be counting the days until Christmas next year
As I think back to days long gone by
